Biographical details

Julian Saxl Julian was born in Bristol and studied violin with Leonard Hirsch and then with Lydia Mordkovitch at the Royal Northern College of Music. He began his career playing in 1985 with the Ulster Orchestra and then in 1990 joined the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

He now works as a freelance violinist/violist with a number of different groups and orchestras. In 1992 he formed his own folk/rock band and has toured Ireland, Denmark and America with folk groups including the Phil Coulter Band and guitarist Fraser Nimmo.

Julian has a particular interest in arranging pop, jazz standards and folk music for string quartet. He is a busy session musician and is featured on Sinead O'Connor's forthcoming album, 'Theology', released in March 2007.

Teaching availability

Julian has been teaching violin/viola for over 20 years. Teaching work has included Marlborough College, Rowan Preparatory School & Milbourne Lodge (Claygate, Surrey) and the East London Late Starters Orchestra. Currently Julian teaches at Trevor Robert's Preparatory School (Swiss Cottage) and is a deputy teacher at the Guildhall Junior Department. Julian also has a private teaching practice in Wimbledon.
